Unwitnessed, “private” wedding vows – are they scriptural?

May a man and woman, living together out of wedlock, say their own “private” wedding vows to one another, with no witnesses being present? If they do this, does God accept them as now being married? Should the church accept this as a legitimate marriage? These questions are discussed in this present study.
